About Ottawa

Ottawa was founded in the spring of 1864 on both banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, in the heart of the Ottawa people's reservation, and it takes its name from them. It became the seat of Franklin County that year and was incorporated in 1866. About 12,600 people live here today.
