About Hutchinson

Hutchinson was founded in 1871 by Clinton Carter Hutchinson where the new railroad line met the Arkansas River, and it became the seat of Reno County in February 1872. In September 1887 a well drilled for oil in South Hutchinson struck salt instead, and salt has come out of the ground here ever since. About 40,000 people live here today.
